Yes, you can smoke at New York Stewart International Airport (SWF) in Newburgh, but only outdoors. The terminal building is smoke-free inside, so head out to the curb in front of the terminal and stand clear of the doors to light up.
Outside the Terminal
SWF is operated by the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey, the same operator as JFK, LaGuardia, and Newark, and it follows the same smoke-free framework. Smoking is permitted only outside, on the curb and sidewalk away from the terminal entrances. Stand back from the doors (Port Authority signage typically marks around 20 to 25 feet) and use the receptacles provided. There is no dedicated covered smoking shelter.
There is no smoking area past the TSA checkpoint. If you have already cleared security, you will need to exit, smoke outside, then re-clear security before your flight. Allow at least 30 to 45 minutes if you need a cigarette before boarding.
New York State Rules
New York’s Clean Indoor Air Act bans smoking indoors in airport terminals, and the law was amended to add e-cigarettes, so vaping is banned indoors as well. Both are permitted only in the outdoor area away from the doors.
