Looking for a place to smoke at Sacramento Airport? Here is your guide to smoking zones at SMF, the primary airport for California’s state capital.
Smoking Zones at Sacramento Airport
Sacramento International is entirely smoke-free indoors. There are no smoking rooms or enclosed smoking areas in either terminal.
Terminal A:
Terminal A has a designated outdoor smoking area near the south end of the terminal. A popular spot among travelers is the grassy area on the south side of Terminal A, where benches and ashtrays are provided. Exit through the baggage claim area and follow the signs.
Terminal B:
Terminal B also has outdoor smoking areas on the lower level (arrivals) near the ground transportation and curbside zone. Southwest Airlines, the dominant carrier at SMF, operates primarily from Terminal B.
You must stand at least 25 feet from any building entrance when smoking at SMF.
Sacramento Airport Smoking Policy
California law prohibits smoking within 20 feet of any public building entrance, but Sacramento International enforces a stricter 25-foot rule. All smoking must take place in designated outdoor areas well away from terminal doors.
SMF is a mid-sized airport with two terminals. The walk from most gates to the outdoor area is moderate. Plan about 25 to 35 minutes for the round trip including TSA re-screening.
