Yes, New York City LaGuardia Airport (LGA) has designated outdoor smoking areas on the curbside outside each terminal. LaGuardia is smoke-free indoors across the board, so all smoking takes place outside at the marked zones, set back from the terminal doors on the arrivals and departures levels.
LaGuardia finished an $8 billion redevelopment that delivered an all-new Terminal B (built in phases between 2018 and 2022) and a new Terminal C for Delta Air Lines (opened 2022). Across all three terminals the pattern is the same: nothing indoors, designated areas on the curbside.
Terminal A (Marine Air Terminal)
Terminal A, the historic Marine Air Terminal, is the smallest and oldest building at LaGuardia and handles a limited schedule of flights. Smoking is not permitted anywhere inside. The designated smoking area is outdoors on the curbside in front of the building, set back from the entrance. Look for signage near the drop-off and pickup lanes.
Terminal B
Terminal B is the large rebuilt main terminal, with a central Arrivals and Departures Hall connected to two island concourses by pedestrian bridges. It serves several carriers, including American, United, Southwest, and others. Smoking is prohibited throughout the building, the concourses, and all gate areas. To smoke, exit to the designated curbside zones, which are on both the arrivals (lower) and departures (upper) levels, away from the doors.
Terminal C
Terminal C is Delta Air Lines’ facility, a single unified terminal that opened in 2022 and replaced the former Terminals C and D. Smoking is not allowed anywhere inside, including the headhouse, concourses, and gates. Use the outdoor designated smoking areas on the curbside outside the terminal, set back from the entrances on the arrivals and departures levels.
Outside the Terminals
All smoking at LaGuardia happens outdoors at the designated curbside zones outside each terminal. These areas are marked with signage and sit on both the arrivals and departures levels, set back from any entrance, exit, or air intake. The outdoor areas are not covered, so plan for New York weather, which can be cold, windy, and wet outside the summer months.
There are no smoking areas after security at any LaGuardia terminal. If you need to smoke during a layover, exit through the nearest doors to a curbside zone, then re-clear security to get back to the gates. LaGuardia is compact, so the walk is shorter than at larger hubs, but re-screening at peak hours can take time, so it is easiest to smoke before entering security.
