Looking for a place to smoke at Detroit Metro Airport? Here is your complete guide to smoking zones at DTW, one of the largest airport hubs in the Midwest.
Smoking Zones at Detroit Metro Airport
Detroit Metro Airport is 100% smoke-free indoors. There are no smoking lounges or indoor smoking areas in either terminal.
McNamara Terminal (Delta Hub):
The McNamara Terminal is one of the largest airport terminals in the world, with over 120 gates on Concourse A alone. Designated outdoor smoking areas are located on the ground level (Level 1) outside the arrivals area. Exit through baggage claim and look for signage near the ground transportation center. Concourse B, which handles regional flights, has a separate outdoor area on the lower level.
North Terminal:
The North Terminal serves most non-Delta airlines including Southwest, Spirit, and American. Outdoor smoking areas are located on the lower level (arrivals) near the curbside pickup zones.
Between Terminals:
There is no airside connection between the McNamara and North terminals. Each has its own outdoor smoking area on the ground level.
Detroit Metro Airport Smoking Policy
Michigan’s Clean Indoor Air Act prohibits smoking in all enclosed public places, including airports. There are no exceptions for airport smoking lounges. Smoking is also prohibited at terminal entrances and must take place in the designated outdoor zones.
The McNamara Terminal is very long — walking from the far end of Concourse A to the ground level exit can take 15 to 20 minutes. Plan at least 45 to 60 minutes for the full round trip including re-clearing TSA security.
