Yes, you can smoke at Dayton International Airport (DAY), but only in two specific designated outdoor areas. Since January 1, 2019, the entire airport campus has been tobacco-free, so smoking is allowed in just these marked spots and nowhere else.
Designated Smoking Areas
DAY restricts smoking to two approved locations:
- Pre-security: outside near the entrance of the Cargo Road employee parking lot.
- Post-security: outdoors near the Field Maintenance Building, the only option available to passengers who have already cleared the checkpoint.
The terminal interior is entirely smoke-free, with no smoking room or lounge anywhere inside. If you are arriving or departing on the public side, head out to the curb and over to the Cargo Road lot area rather than lighting up by the entrance doors.
Ohio State Rule
Ohio’s Smoke Free Workplace Act bans smoking inside all enclosed public spaces, including the whole terminal. Dayton’s tobacco-free campus resolution goes further than the state minimum, which is why smoking is confined to those two dedicated zones instead of a general curbside allowance.
