Yes, you can smoke at Montevideo Carrasco Airport (MVD) outside the terminal in the open air, landside before you pass through security.
Carrasco International Airport is Montevideo’s sole international gateway, served by a single Rafael Viñoly-designed terminal. Uruguay is a global tobacco-control pioneer and prohibits smoking in all enclosed public spaces, so the entire terminal is smoke-free with no indoor or airside smoking room.
Where to Smoke
Smoking at MVD is only possible outside the terminal in the open air, on the landside forecourt before security. The official airport site documents no dedicated smoking zone, so step well away from entrances and other travellers when you light up.
If you are connecting and have already cleared security, there is no airside smoking option. You would need to exit the secure area and re-clear screening to reach the open air outside.
Vaping
E-cigarettes and vapes are comprehensively banned across Uruguay, where their sale, import and use in public places are prohibited. Do not vape anywhere at the airport.
