Yes, Don Mueang International Airport (DMK) has designated smoking rooms for passengers. All indoor smoking rooms at DMK were permanently removed in February 2019 under Thailand’s Tobacco Products Control Act.

Thailand Smoking Regulations
Thailand’s Tobacco Products Control Act B.E. 2560 (2017) bans smoking in all air-conditioned public spaces and within 5 meters of building entrances. Since February 3, 2019, all indoor smoking rooms at Thailand’s six major AOT-operated airports have been permanently removed. Fines for smoking in prohibited areas reach 5,000 baht (~$140 USD). Airports of Thailand (AOT) has lobbied to reinstate indoor smoking rooms, and PM Paetongtarn Shinawatra ordered the creation of standardized smoking areas with proper ventilation at Thai airports — but nothing has been implemented at Don Mueang yet.
E-cigarettes, vaping devices, and all electronic nicotine delivery systems are completely banned in Thailand. A 2025 crackdown resulted in 690 arrests in just one week. Customs officials at DMK actively search luggage for vaping devices. Penalties include fines of 20,000-30,000 baht and imprisonment up to 10 years. Citizens who report vape use can receive up to 60% of the imposed fine as a reward.
Tips for Smokers at Bangkok Don Mueang Airport
- There are no post-security smoking areas at DMK. If you have already cleared security, you must exit the terminal, smoke at the outdoor designated area, and re-clear security. Allow at least 20-30 minutes for the round trip.
- Terminal 2’s smoking area near the car park is the easiest to find and the most popular with travelers at Don Mueang Airport.
- King Power operates departure duty-free shops at DMK where tobacco products are available for international passengers. Arrivals duty-free shops closed across all Thai airports in August 2024.
- Do NOT bring e-cigarettes, vape pens, or heated tobacco devices to Thailand under any circumstances. The 2025 nationwide crackdown has made enforcement at airports more aggressive than ever.
- If you need airside smoking access during a layover in Bangkok, consider flying through Suvarnabhumi (BKK) instead, which has a reinstated smoking room in the Satellite 1 Building.
Travelers connecting through DMK to Phuket (HKT) or Chiang Mai (CNX) should plan their smoke breaks before entering security at Don Mueang, as neither destination airport has post-security smoking areas either.
