Looking for a place to smoke at Colombo Airport? Here is your guide to the smoking area at CMB, Sri Lanka’s main international airport.

Flemingo Duty Free Shop:

The primary smoking room at CMB is located inside the Flemingo Duty Free shop area on the departure level airside. After clearing immigration and entering the duty-free zone, look for the smoking room within the Flemingo shop. This is the main smoking facility for departing and transit passengers.

Near the Serendib Lounge:

A smoking area is also accessible near the Serendib Lounge (SriLankan Airlines’ lounge) on the 1st floor next to Flemingo Duty Free. Take the escalator near duty free, turn left, and walk approximately 20 meters. Note that the lounge itself is non-smoking — the smoking area is separate.

Limited outdoor areas near the terminal entrance are available for arriving passengers.

Sri Lanka’s National Authority on Tobacco and Alcohol Act (2006) bans smoking in public places but specifically exempts designated smoking areas in airports and hotels with 30 or more rooms. All airport lounges (Serendib, Palm Strip, and others) are non-smoking — the designated room in the Flemingo area is the only airside option.

CMB currently operates from a single terminal. Terminal 2 is under construction with completion expected after 2026.

E-cigarettes and heated tobacco products are prohibited in Sri Lanka.
