Serbia’s airport smoking situation changed recently: Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport used to have an airside smoking room, but travellers report it closed around 2024, leaving the airport outdoor-only. Any older guide describing an airside smoking area at Belgrade is now out of date.
For international travel through Serbia, Belgrade (BEG) is the airport that matters, as Air Serbia’s hub.
How Serbian Airport Smoking Works
Serbia’s 2010 law bans smoking in enclosed public areas including airport terminals (it permits separately-ventilated indoor rooms, but Belgrade no longer runs one):
- No airside smoking room at Belgrade since ~2024 — outdoor only
- Smoking is at designated outdoor areas outside the terminal, landside
- The airside “IQOS Zone” in Duty Free is a retail kiosk, not a smoking area
- E-cigarettes are treated like tobacco — not in the indoor terminal
The Hub
Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport (BEG). Serbia’s main gateway and Air Serbia’s hub. The former airside smoking area (by Gate C3) closed in 2024, and smoking is now confined to outdoor areas outside the terminal. Transit passengers must clear passport control, smoke outside, then re-clear security.
Tips for Smokers at Serbian Airports
- Belgrade no longer has an airside smoking room — plan to smoke before security or accept a no-smoking layover
- Don’t be fooled by the “IQOS Zone” in Duty Free — it’s a shop, not a smoking area
- E-cigarettes follow the same indoor ban as tobacco — outdoor areas only
- Smoke at the designated outdoor areas outside the terminal entrances
