Yes, you can smoke at Madeira Airport (FNC) — after security, on an open-air terrace behind the checkpoint, and before security at the outdoor areas outside the terminal, landside.
FNC is Madeira’s only airport, on the coast at Santa Cruz near Funchal, operated by ANA Aeroportos de Portugal.
Smoking After Security (Airside)

The most recent report, from July 2025, described it as “still an open air balcony at the airport behind security where one can smoke whilst looking at the planes coming and going” — consistent with earlier reports from 2017.
