Yes, you can smoke at Trondheim Airport (TRD) — outside the terminal building, landside, where Norwegian law permits smoking in the open air. Trondheim Airport Værnes keeps no indoor smoking rooms and no airside smoking area, so both of its terminals are smoke-free from check-in through to the gates.
Værnes, central Norway’s main airport, is run by Avinor from two connected terminals — Terminal A for domestic flights and Terminal B for international departures.
Where to Smoke
Smoking is permitted outside the terminal building, landside — Norwegian law allows smoking in the open air, and neither terminal at TRD has an indoor room, so this is the only sanctioned spot. Step outside before check-in or after collecting your bags to reach it, whichever terminal you’re using.
Because the only option is landside, the practical move is to have your last cigarette before you go through the security checkpoint. Once you’re airside, in either the domestic or international departure area, there is nowhere to smoke until you land.
Terminal A and Terminal B
Trondheim Airport’s domestic Terminal A and international Terminal B are physically connected; both are smoke-free indoors, with no smoking area in either departure hall or pier. Whichever terminal your flight uses, the outdoor area outside the main building, landside, is the only sanctioned spot.
After Security and Transit Passengers
There is no smoking area past security and no indoor smoking room in either terminal. Passengers connecting through TRD who want to smoke have to exit the secure zone to the outdoor area, landside, and then pass back through screening to return to their gate. On a tight connection this eats into your buffer, so treat a short layover through Trondheim as a smoke-free stop.
Vaping
Norway’s Tobacco Damage Act (tobakksskadeloven) states that its indoor smoking-ban chapter applies equally to electronic cigarettes, so vaping at TRD follows the same rule as smoking: outdoors, landside, outside the terminal building, in either terminal.
