Yes, you can smoke at Murtala Muhammed International Airport (LOS), but only in specific spots: designated smoking sections inside certain premium lounges after security, plus outdoor designated areas landside. The general terminal interior is smoke-free.
Murtala Muhammed International is Nigeria’s busiest airport and the main gateway to West Africa. It splits into the international terminal (MMA1) and the domestic terminal complex (MMA2), so where you can light up depends on which side you are flying from.
Where to Smoke
After security in the international terminal (MMA1), smoking is reported inside the designated smoking sections of certain premium and pay-per-use lounges, such as the Skyway Premium Lounge and Gabfol Lounge. This is traveller and lounge-listing reported and is accessed with a lounge pass or eligible membership. There is no public airside smoking room: the general terminal and concourse areas are smoke-free under the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN).
Landside, designated outdoor smoking areas are available outside the terminal buildings. If you step out after clearing security, you will need to pass screening again to re-enter the departures zone.
At the domestic terminals (MMA2), there is no after-security smoking. Use the outdoor designated areas landside before you clear security.
Nigeria’s Tobacco Control Act 2015 permits ventilated designated smoking areas at airports, which is the legal basis for these lounge sections and outdoor spots.
Vaping
Nigerian law does not restrict e-cigarette use in indoor public places, so vaping at the airport is essentially unregulated. That said, individual airline and lounge courtesy rules still apply, and you must never vape onboard the aircraft.
