# Good News for SEA Travelers: Sea-Tac's Expanded C Concourse Opens for the World Cup

Good news for anyone flying through Seattle this summer: Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) opened its rebuilt **C Concourse** to passengers on **June 11, 2026**, just in time to welcome 2026 FIFA World Cup visitors through the Pacific Northwest’s busiest gateway.

After three years of construction, the concourse reopened bigger and brighter — extra floors built above the original building, 16 new dining and retail spaces, far more open seating, a glass-encased lookout deck, and a striking “Tree at C” centrepiece meant to evoke a Pacific Northwest forest canopy.

## What’s new in C Concourse

- The footprint roughly tripled, from about **81,000 to 229,500 square feet**, in a project reported at around **$399 million** — and the airport pulled it off without losing a single gate.
- 16 new dining and retail spaces opened on day one, plus an Alaska Airlines Lounge of more than 41,000 square feet.
- An interfaith prayer and meditation room and a nursing room.
- **The Lookout at C**, a free airfield observation deck on the third level above Gate C3, encased in glass with openings in the barrier that let fresh air circulate, looking out over the airfield and the Olympic Mountains.

## Where smokers stand at SEA

Good to know before you fly: SEA keeps smoking simple and outdoors. You can light up at the airport’s **four designated outdoor smoking areas**: outside **Doors 5 and 33** on the ticketing level of the Main Terminal, outside **Door 00** at baggage claim, and on **Level 1 of the parking garage**. The smart move is to enjoy your cigarette there before you clear security, since Washington’s Clean Indoor Air Act (RCW 70.160) keeps the terminal and concourses smoke-free.

So treat the new Lookout at C as a lovely spot for plane-spotting and a change of air, and use the outdoor areas by the terminal doors for a smoke break. If you are connecting and want a cigarette, you will need to leave security, use one of those areas and screen through again. Full locations are on our [Seattle-Tacoma (SEA) smoking guide](https://www.airportsmokingzones.com/usa/sea-seattle-seattle-tacoma-international-airport/).

Bottom line: the World Cup makeover gives SEA travelers more dining, more space, and a great new view — and smokers keep their four outdoor areas by the terminal doors and in the garage.

**Update (September 2026):** The Port of Seattle has since published a passenger page for the observation deck, and it settles the question directly — the Lookout at C sits post-security on the 3rd level of the C Concourse above Gate C3, is free to visit, and carries the instruction “Please do not smoke or use as a pet relief area.” The Port’s Designated Smoking Areas page is unchanged as well: SEA remains a non-smoking facility with smoking allowed only in the designated outdoor locations, which the airport’s map lists outside Doors 5 and 33 on the ticketing level, outside Door 00 at baggage claim and on Level 1 of the parking garage; smoking is prohibited along the upper and lower airport drives outside them, in the rest of the garage, anywhere inside the terminal, and at all airfield locations. Those four areas are still the answer for a smoke break.
