International departures has an indoor smoking lounge airside near Gate A1, and there are designated outdoor smoking areas at the terminal entrances landside, before security. This single-terminal airport handles heavy European charter and low-cost traffic, so both options can get busy at peak departure banks — leave yourself a few extra minutes.
Airside Smoking (After Security)
The airside smoking lounge is in the international departures pier, near Gate A1 and close to the Royal Morocco VIP lounge. It is an enclosed, sealed room fitted with smoke extraction, spread across two levels so there is usually room even when a wave of flights is boarding. A sign above the entrance marks it, and it is a short walk into the departures pier once you are through passport control and security. Travellers have reported it open and in use most recently in 2024, and it has been a consistent fixture through the terminal’s 2020 refurbishment. If you cannot find it, airport information staff at the terminal can point you to the nearest designated area rather than a general “somewhere near A1”.
Because Marrakesh runs almost entirely on point-to-point European flights, there is little true international-to-international transit here — most passengers pass through immigration on arrival. If you are connecting, plan to smoke before you leave the airside area, as re-entering means clearing security again. The lounge can close intermittently during terminal works, so check the signage by Gate A1 when you arrive at your pier.
Landside Smoking (Before Security)
Smoking is permitted at the designated outdoor areas just outside the terminal entrances, on the departures forecourt and by the arrivals doors. These are the go-to spots before you check in or clear security, and the ones you will reach first on arrival before your transfer or taxi. The interior of the terminal — check-in, the food court, and the gate areas outside the dedicated lounge — is entirely non-smoking.
Lounges and Outdoor Terraces
The paid lounges at RAK do not currently offer a smoking room.
