Yes, you can smoke at Chinggis Khaan International Airport (UBN) — the airport’s own facilities page lists a smoking room in the ground-floor arrivals hall, a second smoking room in the second-floor border-zone waiting hall past passport control, and a separate outdoor smoking point outside the terminal building. The rest of the terminal is smoke-free.
Mongolia’s main gateway opened on 4 July 2021 southwest of the capital, replacing the old Buyant-Ukhaa airport closer to the city centre. That older airport kept the IATA code ULN and remains semi-operational for some traffic; the new airport carries the code UBN, worth knowing if you see the older code on booking sites. The terminal handled over 2 million passengers in 2024, with arrivals on the ground floor and departures on the floor above.
Arrivals Hall (Floor 1) — Landside
The airport lists a smoking room in the Floor 1 arrivals hall, the area where greeters and arriving passengers pass through before leaving the building. It is the option for anyone landside — meeting a flight, waiting before check-in, or just off a plane and not yet ready to head into the city.

A separate outdoor smoking point, on the airport’s own listing, sits outside the airport building for anyone who would rather smoke in the open air landside than use one of the indoor rooms.
Vaping
The outdoor smoking point is in the open air outside the terminal, where no law restricts vaping; the airport publishes no separate vaping rule for the two smoking rooms either, so ask staff before using one indoors. Mongolia’s Tobacco Control Law does not currently cover e-cigarettes.
