Yes, you can smoke at Mérida International Airport (MID) — at outdoor spots outside the terminal building, landside. The airport’s operator relocated its ashtrays in January 2023 to meet Mexico’s tightened smoke-free-terminal rule, spacing them more than 10 metres apart along the building’s façade; the terminal interior itself is smoke-free.

Outdoor Spots — Landside
According to a January 2023 report by the Yucatán news outlet PorEsto!, ASUR’s regional director, Héctor Navarrete Muñoz, confirmed the airport moved its ashtrays to comply with Mexico’s national tobacco law, which took effect that month: they now sit more than 10 metres apart, spread along the terminal’s façade and the second roadway beside it, rather than clustered near the entrance as before.
After Security — No Facility Confirmed
MID has no smoking facility after security confirmed. The upper-floor departures concourse — gates C1–C11 and the airport’s VIP lounges — has no published smoking section; a connecting passenger who wants a cigarette would need to exit landside and clear screening again.
E-Cigarettes and Vaping
