Yes, you can smoke at Antananarivo Ivato International Airport (TNR) — in the outdoor areas near the terminal entrance and parking lot; the modern air-conditioned terminal is smoke-free indoors.
Antananarivo Ivato International Airport Smoking Policy
Antananarivo Ivato is Madagascar’s main international airport and the busiest in the country, serving routes to Paris, Johannesburg, Nairobi, and major regional destinations. Its modern international terminal — a roughly 17,500 m² building opened in 2021 under the Ravinala Airports concession (the ADP Management-led group that also runs Nosy Be) — is fully air-conditioned and non-smoking, with no indoor smoking cabins. Ivato maintains a stricter environment than smaller domestic airports. Smoking is not permitted inside the terminal buildings, including the international departure hall and domestic wings. There are no indoor smoking rooms at TNR. Passengers must go outside the terminal to smoke, and the outdoor areas near the entrance and parking lot are commonly used. Staff at Ivato are more likely to enforce the indoor ban compared to other Malagasy airports.
