Yes, New Kitakyushu Airport (KKJ) has designated smoking rooms — indoor smoking rooms inside the 2nd-floor boarding lounge (one on the domestic side, one on the international side) for after security, plus a smoking room on the 3rd floor and an outdoor smoking area on the 1st floor before security. As one of Japan’s six 24-hour airports, the terminal and its smoking facilities stay open around the clock.
Kitakyushu Airport sits on an artificial island in the Seto Inland Sea, about 3 km off the Kitakyushu coast in Fukuoka Prefecture. It is a compact, three-storey single terminal: the 1st floor handles arrivals, the 2nd floor handles check-in, security and departures, and the 3rd floor holds shops, dining and a lounge. Smoking is confined to enclosed smoking rooms (喫煙室) and the marked outdoor area, with no smoking elsewhere in the building.
After Security – 2F Boarding Lounge
Once you clear security on the 2nd floor, you will find smoking rooms inside the boarding lounge — one on the domestic side and one on the international side. These are the most convenient options for travelers who want to smoke without leaving the secure zone before boarding.
Before Security – 3F Room and 1F Outdoor Area
If you prefer to smoke before check-in or security, there is an enclosed smoking room on the 3rd floor at the far end of the exhibition corridor, and an outdoor smoking area beside the 1st-floor terminal entrance. Both are landside, so you can use them while seeing off travelers or waiting on a long layover.
Open 24 Hours
Because Kitakyushu Airport runs 24 hours a day, the terminal and its smoking rooms remain accessible to overnight and early-morning travelers — useful for the late and red-eye flights this airport is known for.
