Brindisi Salento is run by Aeroporti di Puglia, the same operator as Bari, and added five gates and a new security area in a February 2018 terminal expansion.
Before Security (Landside)
Smoking at Brindisi is outside the terminal building, landside — open-air smoking there is permitted under Italy’s national law, which bans smoking only in enclosed spaces. Step outside through the departures or arrivals doors before you check in and clear security, since there is nowhere to smoke once you are inside the secure area.
Arriving passengers can smoke the same way, once they are outside the building on the way to the car parks, the taxi rank or the Pugliairbus shuttle stop.
After Security (Airside)
There is no smoking area after security at Brindisi. Aeroporti di Puglia’s own published service-charter data lists the “adequacy of smoking rooms” indicator as not applicable at the airport — it has no separately-ventilated smoking room in the departure gates. The whole airside area, from the security checkpoint through the gates, is smoke-free.
If you are connecting through Brindisi and want to smoke, you would need to exit into arrivals, smoke outside the terminal, then re-clear security to get back to your gate. Give yourself extra time if you plan to do this, since it means queuing through the checks twice.
Vaping
