Al Najaf International Airport (NJF) has no documented smoking area — indoors, airside or outside; its one lounge lists no smoking room, so travellers plan their last cigarette before they walk through the doors.
Najaf International serves the shrine city of Najaf and is Iraq’s busiest airport for international passenger traffic.
Inside the Terminal
The terminal’s check-in hall, immigration area and departure gates are non-smoking, in line with Iraq’s Anti-Smoking Act No. 19 of 2012, which prohibits smoking in public places. Nothing in the public terminal is documented as a smoking room or designated smoking spot.
CIP Lounge
The terminal’s one lounge, the CIP Lounge, has a published amenities list — flight monitors, newspapers and magazines, snacks, telephones and televisions — that does not include a smoking room. That published list is shorter and less detailed than the listings for some other airports’ lounges, so it is a weaker signal than a confirmation either way.
Before Security
The terminal forecourt and drop-off zone have no smoking area documented either. Plan on your last cigarette before you walk into the building, outside on the landside.
Vaping
National law does not restrict where e-cigarettes may be used indoors, and Iraq legalised their import and sale in May 2025. Najaf Airport has not published a vaping area separate from its smoking areas, of which there are none, so use a vape only before you enter the terminal.
