Basra International Airport (BSR) has no documented smoking area — indoors, airside or outside; its one lounge lists no smoking room, so travellers plan their last cigarette before they walk through the doors.
Basra International serves southern Iraq’s oil industry and the port city of Basra as a hub for Iraqi Airways.
Inside the Terminal
The Main Terminal’s check-in hall, duty-free area and departure gates are non-smoking, in line with Iraq’s Anti-Smoking Act No. 19 of 2012, which prohibits smoking in public places. No smoking room or designated smoking spot is documented anywhere in the public terminal.
Royal Lounge
The terminal’s one lounge, the Royal Lounge, sits in the Main Terminal’s international transit area and is reachable through the oneworld alliance for Sapphire or Emerald status holders and business-class ticket holders. Its published amenities list — Wi-Fi, hot and cold food, television, air conditioning and power outlets — does not include a smoking room.
Before Security
There is no smoking area documented at the terminal forecourt or drop-off zone. Have your last cigarette before you enter the building, outside the terminal, landside.
Vaping
Iraq legalised e-cigarette import and sale in May 2025, and national law does not restrict where they may be used indoors. Basra Airport itself has no designated vaping area, the same as it has none for smoking, so use one only before you enter the terminal.
