Trivandrum International Airport (TRV) serves Kerala’s capital city Thiruvananthapuram and is a major hub for flights to Gulf countries including Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Muscat, and Doha. The airport handles both domestic and international traffic with a designated indoor smoking room accessible after security.
Inside Terminals
After clearing security, walk towards the boarding gates. Head to the left and continue past the gates toward the far end of the terminal. Just before the last gate area, take a left and the smoking room will be on your right side.
The room is not always prominently signposted — it’s sometimes called the “smoking lounge” by staff. If you can’t find it, ask any airport employee and they’ll point you in the right direction.
TRV operates separate domestic and international terminals. The above directions apply to the domestic departures area. International passengers should ask at the information desk for current smoking area availability.
Outside Terminals
Outdoor smoking areas are available near the terminal entrances at both the domestic and international buildings. The parking area and taxi stand area provide open space. Kerala’s tropical climate makes outdoor smoking comfortable throughout the year.
Tips for Smokers at TRV
- The indoor smoking room is located deep inside the terminal near the last gates. Give yourself at least 10-15 minutes for the round trip from your boarding gate
- TRV is extremely busy with Gulf traffic. During peak emigrant travel seasons, the terminal can be packed — plan your smoking break around quieter periods between flight waves
- E-cigarettes and vaping are banned across India
- If connecting through Cochin (COK), that airport has indoor smoking facilities on the 3rd and 4th floors
- Cigarettes are available at shops inside the terminal before security. Airside retail options at TRV are limited
