Chandigarh International Airport (IXC) is a civil-military airport serving the tri-city area of Chandigarh, Mohali, and Panchkula, as well as travelers from Punjab, Haryana, and Himachal Pradesh. The airport has a designated indoor smoking area inside the terminal.
Inside Terminals
A smoking zone is available inside the terminal after security. The airport is compact with a single departures area, so the smoking room is within walking distance of all gates. Look for directional signage near the boarding gate area, or ask at the information desk for the current location.
Because IXC is a joint civil-military facility, the terminal layout can change periodically due to security requirements. The smoking area location may shift from time to time, but staff are familiar with the current setup and can point you in the right direction.
Outside Terminals
The immediate curbside area outside the terminal has limited designated outdoor smoking areas due to the airport’s military operations. The parking lot and areas further from the terminal entrance provide open space, but no formal outdoor smoking zone is signposted.
Be mindful of security personnel when moving around the exterior. As a military airfield, Chandigarh Airport has stricter perimeter rules than most civilian airports.
Tips for Smokers at IXC
- IXC is a small airport with limited facilities. Always check the signage upon entering the departure area, as the smoking zone location can change
- Being a military airfield, always carry your boarding pass and ID when moving to and from the smoking area
- E-cigarettes and vaping devices are banned throughout India
- If connecting from Chandigarh to Amritsar or other Punjab airports, note that smoking facilities vary widely at smaller regional airports
- The airport serves Shimla-bound travelers during tourist season. If you have a long wait, the indoor smoking zone is a welcome option before mountain-bound flights
