Looking for a place to smoke at Cochin Airport? Here is your guide to smoking areas at COK, the world’s first fully solar-powered airport.
Terminal 1 — Domestic
- 3rd Floor, Food Court, next to Hanger Bar: Indoor smoking zone accessible after clearing security. This is the primary smoking area for domestic passengers.
Terminal 3 — International
- 4th Floor, Security Hold Area, Food Court: Indoor smoking room in the departure area alongside the food court and airline lounges
- An electric lighter machine is available inside the Terminal 3 smoking room — a helpful amenity since personal lighters are confiscated at Indian airport security checkpoints
Outside the Terminal
- Smoking is permitted in parking areas at your own risk. There are no formal designated outdoor smoking areas immediately outside the terminal buildings.
Cochin Airport Smoking Policy
India’s COTPA regulations allow designated smoking areas in airports. COK has enclosed smoking rooms in both Terminal 1 (domestic) and Terminal 3 (international). Smoking outside these rooms is prohibited. Terminal 2 is an older facility with limited use for domestic and charter flights.
Cochin International Airport (CIAL) was the first airport in the world to operate entirely on solar energy. It has three terminals, with Terminal 3 being the newest (opened 2017) and handling all international flights.
Tips for Smokers at Cochin Airport
- Terminal 3 international has an electric lighter machine — you do not need to bring your own lighter
- The domestic smoking area is on the 3rd floor food court in Terminal 1
- E-cigarettes and vaping devices are completely banned in India
- Buy cigarettes before clearing security — airside shops may not sell them at smaller terminals
- Terminal 2 has limited use — check which terminal your flight departs from
