India Smoking Regulations
Under India’s COTPA (Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act) of 2003, smoking is banned in all public places including airports across the country. A fine of ₹200 is levied on anyone caught smoking outside designated areas. At airports, smoking areas must be set up at least 10 feet from building entrances. Additionally, the Prohibition of Electronic Cigarettes Act 2019 makes it illegal to use, store, or sell e-cigarettes and vaping devices anywhere in India, with penalties including imprisonment for repeat offenders.
Tips for Smokers at Coimbatore Airport
- For the fastest option at Coimbatore International Airport, head to the smoking area near Gate 2 which is accessible after clearing security.
- The Blueberry Bar and Restaurant on the first floor also allows smoking if you make a purchase. Even ordering a soft drink or coffee is enough to gain access to their smoking area.
- Carry your own lighter through security in your checked bag or purchase one inside the terminal, as lighters may be confiscated at screening checkpoints depending on the security officer.
