Bhubaneswar’s Biju Patnaik International Airport (BBI) serves as Odisha’s main airport, connecting the state capital to major Indian cities. It also handles pilgrimage traffic to nearby Puri and the Jagannath Temple. The airport has two designated indoor smoking areas.
Inside Terminals
Two smoking zones are available inside the terminal, both accessible after clearing security:
- 2nd Floor (opposite Damilano): After passing through security, take the escalator to the 2nd floor. The smoking zone is across from the Damilano cafe and dining area.
- Opposite Gate 8: Follow the gate numbers along the departures corridor. The smoking area is signposted opposite Gate 8.
Both areas are in the post-security departures zone, so you can smoke without leaving the secure area.
Outside Terminals
Designated outdoor smoking areas are located near the departures entrance. The parking area outside the terminal has open space where smoking is permitted. After arriving, look for the outdoor area near the curbside pickup zone.
Tips for Smokers at BBI
- With two smoking areas on different levels, check which one is closer to your boarding gate — this can save you time before departure
- BBI is a compact airport. Walking from one end to the other takes under 10 minutes
- E-cigarettes and vaping devices are completely banned in India and will be confiscated
- If you’re heading to Puri, Konark, or Chilika Lake after your flight, the outdoor areas near arrivals provide a good spot for a quick smoke while arranging transport
- The Damilano cafe near the 2nd floor smoking zone serves coffee and snacks — convenient for combining a break with a smoke
