Yes, you can smoke at Cologne Bonn Airport (CGN), including airside after security. Both of CGN’s terminals have their own enclosed indoor smoking lounge past the checkpoint, and — before security — you can smoke outside the terminal building, landside, where German law permits smoking in the open air.
Inside Terminal (After Security)
Terminal 1
Terminal 1 has an enclosed smoking lounge in the B-gates area. Traveller-submitted listings on airport-smoking guide sites, most recently updated in 2025, place it near Gate B71; earlier listings from 2023 put it a short distance away near Gate B11. The exact gate has evidently shifted at least once, so treat these as approximate and follow the cigarette-symbol signage from the gate area rather than a fixed number.
Terminal 2
Terminal 2 has a separate airside smoking lounge. The same traveller-submitted listings place it opposite Gate D71 — again, follow the on-site signage to confirm the current location.
Outside Terminal
Before security, smoking is permitted outside the terminal building, landside, in the open air. CGN has not published a specific marked spot for this on its own site, so this is the general legal position rather than a signed location.
E-Cigarettes and Vaping
CGN publishes no separate rule for e-cigarettes. Use the airside smoking lounges in Terminal 1 or Terminal 2, or the outdoor areas landside. The general terminal halls, gate seating and shops are vape-free.
