Smoking at Split Airport – SPU

Yes, you can smoke at Split Airport (SPU) in the designated smoking area on Floor 1, the departures level, marked on the airport’s own interactive terminal map next to the duty-free shop; Croatian law also permits open-air smoking landside, outside the terminal building.

Split Airport (Zračna luka Split, SPU) is Croatia’s second-busiest airport, the main gateway to Dalmatia.

After Security (Floor 1)

The airport’s interactive terminal map plots a “Smoking area” on Floor 1, in the same cluster as the general departure area, the non-Schengen departures area and passport control, right next to the duty-free shop. The airport’s own duty-free page states the shop is “accessible after security check,” with one location in the general departure area and another in the non-Schengen departure area. Because the smoking area sits in that same floor and cluster, it’s classified airside, past the checkpoint.

The map places the area inside the terminal on Floor 1; Croatian law requires such areas to be enclosed rooms, so this is treated here as an indoor facility, in the same regulatory framework as Zagreb Airport’s indoor smoking cabins after security. The map doesn’t spell out cabin details or a gate number beyond that.

Landside (Before Security)

Outside the terminal building, landside, Croatian law permits smoking in the open air. The airport’s map doesn’t mark a specific outdoor spot, so this is the general legal default before you enter the building or join the security line, not a signed or ashtray-equipped area.

Vaping

Croatia’s Tobacco & Related Products Act bans e-cigarette use in all enclosed public spaces, the same rule that applies to tobacco (Art. 25, NN 98/2025). At SPU that means vaping in the Floor 1 smoking area airside, and outdoors landside under the same open-air allowance as cigarettes.
