Yes, you can smoke at Matecaña International Airport (PEI) — outdoors, on the landside, outside the terminal building. There is no airside smoking area and no indoor smoking room, so smoke before you check in or after you land.
Matecaña sits a short drive west of Pereira and serves the coffee-growing Eje Cafetero region. The terminal is a single four-level building — built in the early 1970s — with check-in, domestic and international waiting areas, and gates all under one roof; the city of Pereira owns the terminal building, and Aerocivil handles airport operations.
Where to Smoke
None of the four-storey terminal’s levels has an indoor smoking room, and there is no smoking area past security — Colombia’s national smoke-free law bans smoking in enclosed public places throughout the building. The only option is the open air outside, so smoke before check-in and security, or after you come through arrivals. Matecaña does not publish a signed or marked smoking spot, so stay outside the terminal, clear of the entrance doors.
Vaping
Colombia’s Law 2354 of 2024 extends the same enclosed-space ban to e-cigarettes, vapes and heated tobacco. At Matecaña that means vaping is limited to the same open-air landside space outside the terminal as smoking.
