Yes, you can smoke at Macau International Airport (MFM) — it is one of the few airports in the region that still keeps indoor smoking lounges after security. Two designated smoking lounges sit on the mezzanine floor of the Departures Level, at the north and south ends of the departure hall, both airside so you can smoke without leaving the secure zone.
Departure Lounges (After Security)
The two smoking lounges are on the mezzanine level of the departure hall, one toward the north end and one toward the south end. Each uses an air-curtain ventilation system to keep smoke isolated from the rest of the terminal and seats around forty people. They are past security, so they work well for a smoke break on a layover. The Plaza Premium Lounge (mezzanine, near Gates 5-6) is non-smoking, so use the dedicated smoking lounges rather than the airline lounge.
Macau’s Smoking Law
Under Macau’s Tobacco Prevention and Control Law, indoor smoking is banned in all public venues except the smoking lounges at the airport and in casinos. A 2026 amendment bill tightening the law (expanding outdoor bans and vaping rules) leaves that airport-lounge exemption in place — see our Macau airport lounges news update. Smoking outside the designated lounges carries a fixed fine of 1,500 patacas.
Vaping
Treat vaping as off-limits at MFM. Macau heavily restricts e-cigarettes, and the 2026 amendment would prohibit vaping in all public spaces. Use conventional cigarettes in the smoking lounges and keep any vape device packed away.
