Terminal Smoking Areas
Dalian operates a single terminal building serving both domestic and international flights. Since the 2016 nationwide indoor smoking ban, there are zero smoking rooms, cabins, or enclosed lounges anywhere inside the building. Once you clear security and reach the gate area, you are in a completely smoke-free environment with no way to light up until you leave the terminal.
The practical consequence is straightforward — if you need to smoke after checking in, you must exit the building, use the outdoor designated area, and then go back through security screening. At DLC this is less painful than at mega-hubs like Beijing or Shanghai because the terminal is compact and security lines are generally manageable, but still budget 20-30 minutes for the round trip during busy periods.
Before Security / Landside
The main outdoor smoking area is located near the terminal’s front entrance on the departure level. Step outside through the main doors and look for the designated smoking spot along the curbside area to the right. There is also a secondary spot near the parking structure entrance. Signage is primarily in Chinese, but the universal smoking symbol is easy to spot.
On the arrivals level, you can smoke in the outdoor area shortly after exiting baggage claim — just step outside and move away from the doorways to the marked zone.

Mainland China banned indoor smoking at all airports effective 2016. This covers every terminal, restroom, corridor, lounge, and enclosed public space. Fines for indoor smoking range from ¥500 to ¥2,000 depending on the municipality. E-cigarettes and heated tobacco products fall under the same rules. Dalian follows national regulations strictly, and airport staff will intervene if anyone attempts to smoke indoors.
