Yes, Calgary International Airport (YYC) has designated outdoor smoking areas outside the terminal at Doors 1, 7 and 17, on both the Arrivals and Departures levels. They are landside (before security), and the terminal is smoke-free and vape-free inside.
Outside the terminal
- Designated smoking areas outside Doors 1, 7 and 17 on the Departures (upper) level
- The same Doors 1, 7 and 17 on the Arrivals (lower) level — six marked spots in total
- Stay within the marked zone, at least 5 metres from doors, windows and air intakes (Alberta law and the City of Calgary bylaw)
Terminal layout
- YYC is one walk-through, airside-connected complex: the original Domestic Terminal (1977) joined to the International Terminal (opened October 2016) by a 620-metre concourse and the YYC Link electric shuttle
- Domestic flights use Concourses A, B and C (WestJet mainly on A gates, Air Canada mainly on C); non-US international flights use Concourse D; US transborder flights with pre-clearance use Concourse E (D and E are stacked in the 2016 International Terminal)
- None of the concourses has an indoor or post-security smoking area, so step outside before screening
Good to know
- Vaping follows the same rules as smoking — outdoor designated areas only
- Recreational cannabis is prohibited everywhere on the property; medical cannabis may be smoked in the designated areas only with valid ID and medical documentation
