Yes, you can smoke at Sofia Airport (SOF), but airside smoking is only inside Terminal 2’s paid lounges — everyone else smokes outside the terminal. There is no general public indoor smoking room.
Sofia Airport is Bulgaria’s main gateway and busiest airport, serving the capital with two passenger terminals (Terminal 1 and Terminal 2). Most international and full-service flights use the larger Terminal 2.
Where to Smoke
Airside (after security): Smoking is limited to Terminal 2’s lounges. The Aspire Business Lounge has a designated smoking area on Level 0, past security, and the Primeclass Lounge offers a roughly 450 m² open-air panoramic terrace with a smoking area. Both require lounge access (paid entry around €25, or free with an eligible ticket or card). The general terminal areas and gates are entirely smoke-free.
Landside: Smoke outside the terminal entrances, before security or after collecting bags.
Transit: Passengers without lounge access must exit and re-clear security to reach an outdoor smoking spot.
Vaping
Bulgaria’s indoor smoking ban (in force since 2012) covers airports, and vaping is treated the same as tobacco. Use the Terminal 2 lounge smoking areas or step outdoors.
