Yes, Rio de Janeiro/Galeão International Airport (Antonio Carlos Jobim) (GIG) lets you smoke outdoors at the Terminal 2 curbs. Brazilian law bans indoor smoking, so all smoking is outdoor and landside.
Terminal 2 (the only passenger terminal in use)
- Outdoor smoking at the curb on the departures level and near the arrivals exit
- Terminal 2 handles all passenger flights - both domestic and international
- No airside (post-security) smoking area and no enclosed smoking rooms
Terminal 1 (deactivated)
- Terminal 1 has been closed to passenger flights since November 2016, with everything consolidated into Terminal 2
- Any older references to a Terminal 1 smoking area no longer apply
Good to Know
- Connecting passengers must exit, smoke outdoors, and re-clear security
- Rio’s tropical climate means outdoor smoking is comfortable year-round
