Yes, you can smoke at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (DAC) — the airport’s official website lists two indoor smoking rooms after security in the international terminal, near boarding gates 5 and 9. BUT note that a national law approved in December 2025 has banned designated smoking areas in public places, so the status of these rooms is now uncertain — check on-site before relying on them.
Hazrat Shahjalal International is the main hub for Biman Bangladesh Airlines and the busiest airport in Bangladesh, serving the capital, Dhaka. A new Terminal 3 has been built but is not yet open to passengers.
Where to Smoke
According to the official hsia.gov.bd site, there are two indoor airside smoking rooms in the international departures concourse, after security:
- One opposite boarding gate 5
- One opposite boarding gate 9
IMPORTANT: the Smoking and Tobacco Products Usage (Control) (Amendment) Ordinance, approved on 30 December 2025, abolishes designated smoking areas in public places. These rooms may therefore be in the process of closing — at the time of writing the airport site had not yet been updated to reflect the change. There is no documented outdoor or landside designated smoking area. Terminal 3 is not yet operational, so no smoking information exists for it.
Vaping
IMPORTANT: the December 2025 ordinance makes the import, sale AND use of e-cigarettes, vapes and heated tobacco products a criminal offence in Bangladesh, carrying up to six months’ jail and fines. Do not bring a vape into Bangladesh.
