Bahrain Airport Smoking Regulations
Law No. 8/2009 prohibits smoking in enclosed public spaces in Bahrain, including workplaces, restaurants, and public transport. Airports, however, are required to provide designated smoking facilities for passengers. Bahrain International Airport’s new terminal, which opened in January 2021, was designed with modern enclosed smoking rooms that feature proper ventilation systems. Bahrain is widely regarded as one of the more socially liberal countries in the Gulf region, and smoking culture is relatively accepted. Tobacco products are available at duty-free shops, though GCC-wide excise taxes apply. E-cigarettes are legal and can be used within designated areas. The airport serves as a transit point for passengers crossing the King Fahd Causeway to and from Saudi Arabia, where smoking regulations are stricter.
