Yes, you can smoke at Heydar Aliyev International Airport (GYD). The terminals have enclosed indoor smoking cabins after security, and there are designated outdoor smoking areas landside outside the entrances.
Heydar Aliyev International Airport is Baku’s modern Caspian gateway and the home hub of AZAL (Azerbaijan Airlines). It operates Terminals 1 and 2, with the striking wood-clad Terminal 1 handling the bulk of international traffic.
Where to Smoke
The official airport website lists “Smoking Cabins” on its terminal facilities page, confirming enclosed indoor smoking cabins inside the terminals.
- Airside cabins: Travellers report smoking cabins near Gates 1 and 12, plus a cabin in the arrivals/baggage area. Exact gate positions can shift, so look for the signed cabins in the departures and arrivals zones.
- Lounge cabins: The Premium Bank Lounge in Terminal 1 has separate smoking cabins located just outside it, so lounge guests can smoke without leaving airside.
- Outdoor areas: Designated outdoor smoking areas are marked landside outside the terminal entrances.
The fine for smoking outside the designated cabins and outdoor areas is around 30 AZN.
Vaping
IMPORTANT: From 1 April 2026, Azerbaijan bans the import, sale, possession and use of e-cigarettes and vapes nationwide, with fines of roughly 350–500 AZN. Do not bring a vape into the country. Heated-tobacco (IQOS-type) products are defined separately and remain legal. The smoking cabins are intended for combustible cigarettes.
