Looking for a place to smoke at Sydney Airport? Australia’s busiest airport is completely smoke-free indoors, but designated outdoor areas are available at all three terminals.
Smoking at Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport – SYD – 2026
Sydney Airport has three terminals, each with designated outdoor smoking zones. No terminal has indoor smoking rooms or airside access for smokers.
T1 International Terminal:
Designated outdoor smoking areas are located at both ends of the departures drop-off zone, outside check-in counters A and J/K. There is also a departures terrace accessible through a corridor between the public toilets, through double doors, leading to an outdoor deck with tables, chairs, and partial cover. On the arrivals level, outdoor areas are at each end of the terminal.
There are no smoking areas for passengers who have cleared immigration or security. Transit passengers have no smoking access.
T2 Domestic Terminal (Virgin Australia, Jetstar, Rex):
Exit the building and turn right. Walk to the end of the terminal where there is a smoking area with some seats under cover. This area is available on both the arrivals and departures levels.
T3 Domestic Terminal (Qantas):
Designated smoking zones are located outside the terminal entrance areas.
Between Terminals:
T1 is separate from T2/T3 and connected by bus or train. Each terminal has its own smoking areas — there is no shared zone between them.
NSW law (Smoke-free Environment Act 2000) bans smoking within 4 metres of any pedestrian entrance or exit of a public building. The on-the-spot fine is $550. Vaping and e-cigarettes are subject to the same restrictions.
