Yes, Brisbane Airport (BNE) has designated smoking areas — though they are outdoor-only. However, Brisbane International Terminal has an outdoor Smoking Balcony on Level 3 of the Departures Lounge, after security.
Brisbane’s outdoor balcony is part of a small club of open-air after-security spots — see Auckland Airport’s open-air smoking deck after security and Singapore Changi’s open-air smoking gardens after security.
Smoking Areas at Brisbane Airport
Brisbane Airport has separate Domestic and International terminals connected by a transfer bus.
International Terminal — Smoking Balcony (Post-Security):
The International Terminal has a designated Smoking Balcony on Level 3 in the Departures Lounge, after security and passport control, located behind The Coffee Club. This is an open-air balcony available to ticketed passengers only.
This makes Brisbane one of the very few Australian airports where you do NOT need to exit security to smoke on an international flight. If you have a layover or connecting flight through Brisbane International, you can access this balcony.
Domestic Terminal:
Sheltered outdoor smoking areas are located at both ends of the Domestic Terminal building. These are before security — once past the security checkpoint for domestic flights, there is no smoking access.
Brisbane Airport Smoking Policy
Queensland law bans smoking within 5 metres of non-residential building entrances. Vaping is subject to the same restrictions. The International Terminal Smoking Balcony complies with this regulation as an open-air outdoor space.
For Australia airport smoking rules, the vape ban, and other general info, see our Australia smoking guide.
