Yes, you can smoke at Queen Beatrix International Airport (AUA) — in the open air outside the terminal building, before you check in or go through security. The terminal itself, including the departure gates, is entirely smoke-free.
Queen Beatrix International Airport sits just outside Oranjestad and is Aruba’s only airport. It is run by the Aruba Airport Authority N.V. (AAA), whose own published House Rules set the smoking policy inside the building.
Where to Smoke: Outside the Terminal
Under Article 9 of AAA’s official House Rules and Regulations, “smoking and/or vaping inside the airport terminal buildings is not allowed.” That covers the whole building — check-in hall, arrivals and the departure gates — so open-air smoking outside the building is permitted; no designated or signed smoking area is currently confirmed. Plan to have your last cigarette or vape before you enter the building for check-in or before you head through security, since there is no smoking area once you are inside.
This is a change from the airport’s older layout. Until 2022, AUA had an indoor smoking spot at the One Happy Bar; the airport authority closed it that year when Aruba’s national tobacco law took effect.
