Yes, you can smoke at Luanda’s new Dr. António Agostinho Neto International Airport (NBJ), but in the open-air areas outside the terminal, away from the entrances. NBJ is a brand-new airport and has not yet published a detailed smoking-area map, so smoke before security and look for the marked outdoor spots or ask at the information desk.
Dr. António Agostinho Neto International Airport (IATA: NBJ; ICAO: FNBJ) is Angola’s new main gateway, about 40 km southeast of Luanda in the Ícolo e Bengo area. Cargo operations began in late 2023 and the airport took over all of Luanda’s passenger flights on 1 March 2026, replacing the old Quatro de Fevereiro Airport (LAD), which closed to commercial traffic. The passenger terminal is split into international and domestic zones.
Where to Smoke
Smoke in the outdoor areas outside the terminal, clear of the doors. As a new build, NBJ has not published a gate-level smoking-area map, and there is no confirmed enclosed indoor smoking room or airside (post-security) area. The practical approach is to finish your cigarette outside before you check in and clear security; if you are connecting, you would need to exit the secure area to smoke.
We will update this page with exact locations as the airport publishes them or travellers confirm them — use the Contribute button if you have spotted a designated spot.
Vaping
E-cigarettes and vapes follow the same rule as cigarettes: use the outdoor areas only, never inside the terminal, and carry any device in your hand luggage rather than checked baggage.
