Frequently Asked Questions

How many airports still have indoor smoking rooms?

Over 100 airports worldwide maintain indoor smoking rooms in 2026. Japan leads with indoor rooms at every major airport (69 at Haneda alone). Russia, India, Indonesia, UAE, Sweden, and South Africa also maintain indoor facilities. In the US, only Las Vegas and Nashville have indoor post-security options.

Why do some airports still allow indoor smoking?

Legal exceptions vary by country. Japan’s airports maintain smoking rooms as passenger amenities. Nevada gaming law exempts Las Vegas airport lounges. Russia considers airport smoking rooms standard infrastructure. Some airports use architectural loopholes — Miami’s atrium has a roof gap making it legally ‘outdoor’ under Florida law.

Can I use e-cigarettes in airport smoking rooms?

Policies vary. Most Japanese, Russian, and Middle Eastern airport smoking rooms allow e-cigarettes. Moscow Vnukovo even has a dedicated IQOS lounge. However, Miami’s open-air atrium bans e-cigarettes entirely, and some Indian airports restrict vaping devices. Always check signage at the specific room.

Do I need to pay to use airport smoking lounges?

Most airport smoking rooms are free. Exceptions include Nashville’s Travelers Post ($10 entry with bar service), paid airport lounges like Johannesburg’s Lounge 27, and premium airline lounges with smoking areas like Garuda Indonesia lounges at Jakarta.
